This version runs on the new PeoplesEngine 1.1.0 that offers much improved 3D model lighting and environmental lighting. A new atmosphere render is currently being developed as you can see on the screenshots. But we don't know if it will be finish at the time of the alpha release
[NEWS] Development of version 0.3.0 12/07/2008: We will not release any more updates for the tech-demo. Instead we are focusing our energy on developing the first alpha version (0.3.0) of the game. We are already far into the development, but still much work needs to be done. We have completed face one of the performance optimization. We have successfully implemented a geo-mippaping system, which in some cases have doubled the game performance. Vertex shaders and pixel shaders have also been optimized, but we are still not finished tweaking them. An improved GUI is also in development, and more game play features will be added. We plan to have the alpha version ready this month or in August.
[NEWS] Patch 0.2.3 released02/07/2008: We have released the 0.2.3 patch for the tech-demo. It corrects many bugs, and adds much needed features (see release notes). The patch will automatically be downloaded by the game launcher, so you do not have to download the entire game from this website. Release notes
[NEWS] We need help 01/07/2008: Though the programmers work hard on debugging the tech-demo, it is time to focus on the further development of Nordic Realms. In order for Nordic Realms to be the coolest and best MMORPG on the Net we need your help. But due to the fact that Nordic Realms is a free game - and there by non-commercial, we cannot offer any kind of money - but you can help develop a game that could be THE best in its genre. If you think you have what it takes, to be a part of the crew: write on the forum, and we will consider your participation. Currently we are looking for: - Programmers: The game-engine is made from scratch, so you can help develop a unique game environment. A level of experience with the XNA Framework and C# is required. - 3D Artist: We need 3D artist to make anything from buildings, terrain, weapons, characters etc., so if you have any experience in programs like Blender, Autodesk Maya or Autodesk 3ds then consider participating. - 2D Artist: The game needs 2D artist to make textures, game art and menu etc. - Music Composer: Nordic Realms will not be a proper game without music - so we need a person with the knowledge and capability to produce some music for both the menu and game. - Voice Actor: We need English voice actors to play the characters in the game - different "kinds" of English would be great - like American, Scottish, British and so on. - Sound Editor: The voice actors work need to be edited and sound effects needs to be added - so if you have any experience with sound editing please write. - Story: We need people who can make an exciting story, write quest and develop characters - please write if you find this interesting If you have any other ability that you think might will help us, you are most welcome to write on the forum, which can be found in the menu. [NEWS] Nordic Realms release aftermath 30/06/2008: It is time to do a little aftermath after the tech-demo release. We have got a new 3D artist on the team (Bjarke Raakjær Jensen), so the quality of the 3D content should improve with the new patches. He has already crafted some interesting content, that will be used to expand the world in a future release. We have downloaded a lot of bug reports from crashed clients, and are working non-stop to solve them. We think we will have a patch next month that will correct even more birth flaws. There is still a problem with running the client on old GeForce 5 cards, so if you have one of these cards, please wait for the next patch. Very few people have taken the benchmark test, so again we want to encourage people to take it.
[NEWS] Patch 0.2.2 released!29/06/2008: Yes, the 0.2.1 has only been live for one day, and now a new patch is released. There was a lot of "birth errors" in the 0.2.1 version that has been fixed. People had trouble creating accounts, and the game would crash on GeForce 5 cards. This has now been fixed, so go to the download section and get the new release. You can not get the patch by using the automatic game updater in the launcher, since this was also broken. Comments
[NEWS] Nordic Realms version 0.2.1 Tech-demo released! 28/06/2008: We have released the first official version of the game. It is a tech-demo, so it will only give you an idea of how the final game will look. Hurry to the download section and get it. Since this is the first release, we have little knowledge of how the game will perform on different computers, so we would like everyone to take "The benchmark test". This test can be started by executing the game launcher, clicking "Options", and then clicking "Benchmark system". The result of the test will automatically be sent to our server. If you find a bug in the game, please write a bug report on the forum (Crash bugs will automatically be reported to our server). Release notes Comments
[NEWS] New screenshots from version 0.2.124/06/2008: We have released new screenshots from version 0.2.1. Comments
[NEWS] Animation 29/05/2008: We are currently trying to get our animation to work. We are having some serious problems with this, and have come to the conclusion that most of our render engine needs to be rewritten. This will delay the 0.2.1 tech demo. We are also working on two new development tools for creating better nature and special effects. Comments
[NEWS] NOOOOO!!!23/05/2008: Our only computer with a shader model 2.0 compatible video card, has burned out :(. Development is currently paused, since we can't debug the game. We will get a new video card on Monday. Comments
[NEWS] Version 0.2.1 on the way 14/05/2008: We are canceling our plans to release version 0.2.0. Instead we will wait till version 0.2.1 is ready. This release will feature animation (it is a bit boring to fight a monster that is not animated), improved quests and more effects. It will be released this week or the next week. Comments
[NEWS] Nordic Realms release again stalled by danish law
10/05/2008: Our servers are situated in Denmark, so we have to obey the laws in that country. There is a tight law regarding the collection of personal information called the “Persondataloven”. If you collect data like emails, Names, Addresses etc. you need a permission from the Danish state. Until we get this permission, we can not release Nordic Realms, since an email address is required to register a user. Comments
[NEWS] Nordic Realms version 0.2.0 temporarily suspended
09/05/2008: Ok, this is not a big problem, but we have run into some legal issues. First we did not acquire the correct licenses for the fonts that we used in the game, so until that is sorted out, we will have to remove the download. We also had some problems with credit, but version 0.2.0a will be up for download in a day or two (depending on how long it takes to get the licenses right). Comments
